About personalized artwork
“MUSICA MEDICINA DOLORUM” was delicately painted on the harpsichord that
my mother used to play and which showed off in all its glory in the parlor of
the mansion where I grew up.
When I think about it, I have to admit that my childhood was steeped in
art: my parents were two musicians, the house we lived in was top-to-toes an
example of art-deco, that was unfortunately razed to the ground and had to make
way for new apartments when I was about 15 years old.
“MUSIC SOOTHES THE SUFFERING”.
As a child I did not think about it, but gradually I also learned to
feel what it did to myself. Especially
when art in all its facets completely disappeared from my life for a few years.
And because this Latin proverb is perhaps unjustly limited to music
alone, I would like to make a plea here for the power of every art form. Because just like music, a beautiful
sculpture, a wood sculpture, a painting, a drawing, a poem, a primeval forest…
has the power to silently be our best friend.
The power also to empower, to nurture, to inspire courage and hope.
That is also what I aspire to do with my artwork.
Working intuitively:
Several times I was allowed to make a personal mandala for someone. It usually went like this…
In an informal conversation I receive directions. Like seeds.
Sometimes they come naturally, sometimes I ask for specific wishes
regarding colours, symbols, themes… I
like to take time for this, and also for the process that follows.
In the days after this conversation I always experience that I wake up
in the middle of the night or very early in the morning with an image, an idea
that somehow connects very thoroughly to what has been said.
In how I work, with mandala’s, that image is actually always the center
of the circle. Once I see this image
clearly in my mind, I start with the drawing, which unfolds layer by layer in
the weeks that follow, following the energy of the center.
I draw this mandala from my intuition, with the directions I get from
the other person. Although I connect
with his/her energy, it continues to happen from within my being. That’s actually interesting to know, because
I strongly believe the result is a synergie between both of our energies.
Feel free to contact me if you want to know more about this. Depending on the size of the work, the price
will also be different. For the average
drawing, such as the original designs of the prints from the artshop, I work
about 4 days. Not in one piece, of
course. But it all boils down to that in
the end. This is about a design of
30x30cm.

Maybe my drawing style appeals to you in the context of personal
projects. It seems very special to me to
be able to contribute to the ideas of others; a book, a magazine, a logo… Do not hesitate to contact me about this.
